Aerogel, also know as frozen smoke, is a synthetic porous ultralight material derived from a gel and is the world’s lowest density solid at 98% air. It is produced by extracting the liquid component of a gel. When placed in the hand, it’s almost impossible to see or even feel but it can support up to 4,000 times it’s own weight. It can also withstand a blast from 1kg of dynamite and even protect against heat from a blowtorch at more than 2,400 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s known to be the best insulator in existence.
